October is AAC Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). AAC refers to the tools and strategies that help children and adults with severe speech or language difficulties communicate more effectively when spoken language is not an option. These solutions can range from simple picture boards to high-tech communication devices. A recent study revealed that more than 2 million people rely on AAC to express themselves, connect with others, and participate fully in their communities. This month, we come together to celebrate the importance of AAC and advocate for increased accessibility and support for those who use it.
