Week 5: Oct. 5-9

4th Hour

Mr. Richardson

Synchronous GOOGLE MEETS Tuesdays and Fridays 12-12:30. CLICK HERE TO ATTEND.

Monday Oct. 5

  1. Find an interesting biographical fact about Roald Dahl.

  2. List what works of his you are familiar with (maybe from films?)

  3. Read ONLY paragraphs 1-38 of Roald Dahl's "Lamb to the Slaughter".

Come prepared tomorrow with notes (typed or handwritten) for a group discussion of these questions (and your bio fact, and your list of works):

  • Think about the news Patrick discloses. What is stated and what is unstated?

  • Why does Dahl choose to avoid directly stating the news in the dialogue?

  • What do you think Patrick told Mary?

  • What evidence supports your speculation?

Roald Dahl did not like school.

Tuesday Oct. 6

MEET: 12-12:30

BASE group discussion of your notes on Roald Dahl bio and pghs. 1-38 from Monday. Check-ins on each group.

Cut and paste questions from MON (above) into your Base Group.

Someone ask the questions - take turns answering.

Decide if you are reading "Lamb" in your group or back in large group. All return to large group at 12:25. If you finish early, maybe even start the video below together.

Read aloud, "Lamb to the Slaughter" - OPTION: full group by Mr. R. or in BASE groups.

DOING THE MOST: 1958 Alfred Hitchcock adaptation of Lamb to the Slaughter for your viewing pleasure. (26 minutes)

Mary enjoys a good giggle.

Don't make Mary unhappy.

Wednesday Oct. 7

Google Classroom: Go through the instructions on the "Lamb to the Slaughter" and Dramatic Irony slideshow.

Write and submit your paragraph on the Google Form on Classroom.

Click to come join us in Cyberville, if you haven't already.

Thursday Oct. 8

OK, yesterday you wrote your own paragraph on Dramatic Irony. Today, (on Google Classroom) you read a paragraph about "Lamb to the Slaughter" and revise it to make it better. Have a draft ready for our class meeting tomorrow.

Pay attention to making sure there is context from the story for quotes, flow between sentences (transitions), and sentence variety. You will be showing classmates this revised paragraph tomorrow and looking at a model to compare it to before you turn in a final draft.

OK, someone had the same idea as us.

Friday Oct. 9

Synchronous GOOGLE MEETS Tuesdays and Fridays 12-12:30. CLICK HERE TO ATTEND.

  1. Bring the draft of your revised paragraph.

  2. In breakout groups, share some of your revision ideas.

  3. After 10 minutes, Mr. Richardson will give you a sample paragraph. Use what you want from your discussion and the model paragraph to come up with a final draft of YOUR revision. Submit on Google Classroom today.
