Vall Salina e-Journal is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal devoted to the study of the anthropology of salt from an interdisciplinary perspective. The journal aims to disseminate high-quality research addressing the cultural, social, economic, environmental, and technological dimensions of salt production, distribution, and use across past and present societies. It welcomes contributions from fields such as archaeology, anthropology, history, geography, geology, and related disciplines.
The journal promotes a cross-disciplinary approach to salt studies, encouraging dialogue between the humanities, earth sciences, and environmental research. Particular attention is given to traditional and historical salt exploitation systems, their socio-economic organization, technological processes, and ecological implications, as well as to contemporary perspectives on heritage, sustainability, and landscape management.
Each issue is structured around a thematic Monographic Section, complemented by a Collaborations section featuring original research articles. In addition, the journal includes a section devoted to news and updates related to the anthropology of salt, aimed at fostering the dissemination of current research activities, projects, and developments in the field.
While maintaining a strong international outlook, the journal also supports research focused on local case studies — particularly those related to Cardona and other salt landscapes — understood within a broader global and comparative framework.
