Indian River follows the New York State Next Generation Science Standards. We will use Mystery Science, a curriculum designed for the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to cover performance expectations for our 1st grade curriculum.
Life Science:
Structure, Function and Information Processing: We will study how plants and animals use their external parts to help them survive, grow and meet their needs.
Earth Science:
Space, Systems, Patterns and Cycles: We will study the sun, moon and stars to describe patterns that can be predicted, as well as observe the different amounts of daylight to the time of the year.
Physical Science:
Waves, Light, and Sound: We will study sound, how it vibrates and can make materials vibrate, as well as how objects can give off their own light and illuminate others
K-2 Engineering Design:
These standards are incorporated into the above topics.
