Indian River uses a science program called Every Science, Every Year where students explore a topic in each of the four domains of science every year. Our Calcium Science Fair will take place in the spring. All second and third grade students create a project and display with their families to share with the school for this event. This can be on any topic that is of interest to you and your child! In second grade, we will be exploring 4 different units of study:
Biology: Animal Habitats- In this unit, we will look at the different habitats around the world and the adaptations animals needs to survive in these habitats. Students will each be choosing an animal to complete an animal report on.
Chemistry: Nutrition- In this unit, we will look at proper nutrition and things we can do to keep our bodies healthy. We will look at healthy eating habits, exercise, reading labels, and the food pyramid.
Earth Science: Fossils/Dinosaurs- In this unit, we will look at how fossils are formed and what we can learn from studying them. We will look at dinosaur fossils and how anthropologists find and study them to learn about the past.
Physics: Forces of Motion- In this unit, we will look at different forces and how they assist us in our day to day tasks.
