During guided reading, students will be independently engaged in activities that allow them to practice their reading skills. These activities maximize the time your child spends reading and writing to give them lots of practice. Daily five is many students favorite part of the day! will get to choose from five activities daily:
Listen to Reading: Students pick a student to listen to on Tumble books and follow along as it is read aloud to them. This serves as a great fluency model of what reading should sound like!
Reading To Self: Students pick a just right book and find a spot in the room to read to themselves. Many times, these books come from books a student previously read in guided reading.
Reading to Someone: Students find a spot in the room and take turns reading with a friend. This allows students to explore books about similar interests together and encourages great conversations about reading!
Work on Writing: Students have the opportunity to continuing working on or illustrating a story they have been working on in writers workshop. Students may also have an assigned writing task they need to compete during this time.
Word Work: Students may pick a word work bin to do activities that assist in learning high frequency words. Students may also have an assigned task relating to the principal we are studying that week in class.
