Introduction:
Hello! My name is Jessica Sorice. I live in Evans Mills with my husband Jason, son's JT(10) and Joey(8) and our precious baby girl Joscelyn (5), we have a chocolate lab named Bailey and a goldfish named Mac n cheese! I love teaching Kindergarten!
Education-
This is my 13th year and each year is new and exciting for me! I am very excited and looking forward to working with you and your child!
I am an alumna of Indian River! After graduation, I went on to study Theatre Arts at Niagara University (which is near Niagara Falls). I had a chance while I was a student at NU to take a semester to work at Walt Disney World as very close personal friends with Mickey, Minnie, Winne the Pooh, and Piglet! It was a wonderful experience which I will treasure always! After graduation I went on to receive my Master Degree in Early Childhood Education also from Niagara University. I had the chance during my Master program to study abroad in the Netherlands and Germany as well as Italy. While I was there I had the chance to visit many different schools in the area and see how their education differs from ours! I am a life-long learner and look forward to continuing my education and bettering myself as an educator.
My LOVES-Theatre is a huge part of my life-watching it, performing in it, teaching it. I am a member of NYSTEA-the theatre education association as well as the National Thespian Honor Society. For 2 weeks in August, I teach summer theatre for children ages 4-10 at Potsdam State College. I feel that theatre should be an essential part of the education process. I believe that children learn from hands on experiences and intend to treat my classroom as a stage in which my students can perform and learn everyday life lessons.
Just a little more about me as a person-I am also a huge sports fan! I played volleyball, softball, and soccer throughout school, and was a cheerleader in college. I love attending Warrior football games in the fall as well as watching NFL and NHL games on TV or in person if I get the chance! I also love listening to all types of music. I believe music is also important in the classroom, and Mrs. Lewis and I will work closely this year to incorporate it into my student's learning.
My Family-Our first son JT was born March 31st 2010. On November 10th, 2011 we welcomed our second buddle of joy, Joey! We just welcomed our daughter on October 30th 2014! Becoming parents has brought more joy and happiness than my husband Jason and I could ever of imagined! Now that both boys will be in school I can share both the teacher and the parent perspective with you! Please feel free to ask any questions you may have! No question is a stupid question!
In my classroom, I promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect. I work hard to build a sense of community among my students, and I emphasize the idea of teamwork. I value cooperation and collaboration both in my classroom and as I work with my peers. I feel that parent support is a huge part of success with teacher and student! I believe that great things can happen when we work together!
**Just a side note-I have been encouraged to keep my personal and professional life as seperate as possible. Therefore, I will be happy to become friends throughout our interaction in school/PTO, however, I feel that it is important to uphold a professional demenor and therefore will not be able to accecpt friend requests on facebook or any outside school source at this time. I do not intend to offend anybody, I just want to do what is in the best interest of our students. Please feel free, as I have said, to reach me anytime by phone or email or on our class webpage/class messenger. Thank you for your understanding! I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you over the next few months!
We are going to have a great year!
