The RSPB's Big Schools' Birdwatch is a citizen science project for schools across the UK. It takes place alongside, the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch.
It’s easy (and free!) to get involved, and we find that most children are excited to be a part of this important research. All you have to do is count the bird species you can see in your school, and then send the results to the RSPB. Easy!
1. Register today!
Register today, and we’ll send you a fantastic pack with everything that you and your class need to take part in Big Schools’ Birdwatch. All our resources are differentiated to support curriculum learning and are available in Welsh, but hurry - packs are only available until 30 January.
2. Get counting
Get counting in your school grounds! Your free pack includes helpful ID resources, handy survey sheets plus everything you need to know to get your Wild Challenge award.
3. Submit your results
You can now submit your results online. It’s easy to do with your class interactively on the whiteboard. We really want to know what you see, even if you see nothing at all. The last day for sending us your results is 19 February.
Neeps and Tatties is a new Scots language book for children, written by Carey Morning and illustrated by Anna York, in partnership with equality charity Nil by Mouth. The story deals with discrimination and prejudice through the medium of these much loved vegetables. The Scots Language centre website includes a task mat of activities and a downloadable pdf version of the book. The video here is a reading of the book available on youtube.
