Highland One World Global Learning Centre supports schools in the Highlands and Islands to promote Global Citizenship and Learning for Sustainability . The services HOW provide aims to develop active Global Citizenship Education through the provision of:

• Advice on embedding global citizenship/Learning for Sustainability and Rights-based learning in the formal and informal education sectors

• CLPL Training for individual teachers, whole schools and clusters

• An extensive resource library

• Conferences and Networking events

• Tailor-made support for schools

• Mentoring for educators

British Council help school children from Scotland and overseas become global citizens by enabling them to learn about other cultures and prepare for life in the global economy. For example, British Council supported over 70 Scottish schools to partner with schools in 17 countries around the world in 2013-14 through its Connecting Classrooms programme. They ensure that what they offer meets the needs of Scottish schools by working closely with their partners, including Education Scotland, SCILT (Scotland’s National Centre for Languages), local authorities and the education faculties at Scottish universities. They provide professional development opportunities for teachers and school leaders and run an award scheme to recognise schools that bring an international component into their curriculum.

Many people think our work is timber production. That’s true – but it's only part of the story. We also develop renewable energy schemes, create and maintain trails and visitor facilities and conserve habitats, wildlife and archaeological treasures.
