As you may have seen on the news or on social media, the winner of the naming competition has been announced…‘Hydro Ness’ by Grace MacKenzie of Milton of Leys Primary School has been chosen as the winning name and poster for the naming competition!!
I would like to thank all the pupils and teachers for submitting such creative and well thought out names and posters. Projects can be really difficult and going through all the names and posters was a real highlight and truly inspired the project team so I can’t thank you enough.
We look forward to arranging visits for all of you once the Hydro Ness is open!!

Dingwall Primary flying the flag for Highland Schools during COP26 with some fantastic learning and teaching. "This has been a project that children have enjoyed and we have timed it to coincide with COP26, pupils have been very motivated about their learning. It is great to have posters in both English and Gaelic.
"We have worked with the Woodland Trust and we have 400 trees donated to the school and will be planted in a fenced-off area of the playground."
Tress to be planted are silver birch, rowan, hawthorn and wild cherry.
Kevin Raistrick, head teacher, said: "The trees are a gift from our current children to children of the future."
Last year, P6/5 at Lochardil Primary created this video to show all they had learned about climate change. we thought about all the negative things that are happening, but also the positive things that give us hope.
In the run up to COP26 and as part of the #HighlandCOP campaign Lochardil Primary School are Clearing up their Playground and local community with a special project: Collecting Our Packets. The children and staff are collecting, cleaning and using crisp packets to create foil blankets which they hope will give back to the community : locally, nationally and globally.
The Art department at Millburn Academy have been busy making for the Art Departments Eco Christmas Shop. They Upcycled old baubles, painted paper scraps for winter tree cards and old wallpaper lining turned into hand painted wrapping paper. Children at Bulnalbib Primary School have been learning about @COP26 and how we can each make a difference. Poolewe Primary held an assembly about @COP26 , They talked about each child being a climate leader and spoke about immediate actions they could take, they spoke about food waste. In Gairloch High School the National 5 climate specialists helped to teach S1 about global impacts, local impacts and adaptations and then what inspiring people are doing to make a difference.
