Welcome back! We trust that you and your children had a fantastic Easter break and are now rejuvenated and eager to continue their exciting year at Rockliffe Manor. We are thrilled to present the Year 5 curriculum newsletter for the Summer term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during this upcoming period.
In English the children will be reading Boy in the Tower by Polly Ho-Yen and creating their own newspaper article based on the plot of the story.
In Maths, the children will be learning how to measure, draw and calculate angles. These will include on a straight line, a triangle and a quadrilateral. They will then be learning how to trnaslate a shape using coordinates and a line of symmetry.
In Science, the children will be answering the question "How does the position of the planets affect life on Earth?" To help them answer this question they will learn about the Earth's orbit and the phases of the moon.
In geography, the children will be exploring the water cycle and answering the question "How might humans impact the water cycle?"
In online safety, the children will be learning about managing online information effectively. And in computing they will be using their digital literacy skills to learn how to utilise an online document - this will be done through Google Docs
In RE, the children will be learning how Buddhists try to follow the teachings of Buddha - covering key figures such as Prince Siddhartha and the Dali Lama.
In PE, they will learn competition net games such as tennis and hone their athletics skills
In DT the children will be learning how mechanisms work in order to move things - this will be linked to their science learning and they will make an orbiting model of the solar system
In French, the children will be learning how the French pronounce different countries and their nationalities. They will produce a booklet in French about their own nationality.
In Music, the children will be learning about the importance of keeping time and breathing when singing

In RHE, the children will be learning about rights, responsibilities and law. This will involve community and understanding how parliament works.
