Welcome back, everyone! We hope that you and your children had a wonderful break and are now eager to continue the exciting year at Rockliffe Manor. We are thrilled to present the Year 2 curriculum newsletter for the Summer Term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during this upcoming period.
Our core text this term is 'The Promise' by Nicola Davies and the text will offer opportunities for the class to develop descriptive language and explore different text types as they plan and write a newspaper report. Throughout the learning journey, we will be analysing imagery in the text and generating descriptive language and similes.
During the Summer term, Year 2 will be focusing on recognising and finding different fractions before moving onto telling the time. We will start by recognising and finding different fractions including a half, a quarter and a third. We then move on to time where we will be focusing on telling the time and identifying how many minutes in an hour and hours in a day.
In Science, we will be moving our learning onto plants. During the half term we will be planning and completing comparative tests focusing on what plants need to grow.
This half term we are going to be looking at what life is like across the UK. The children are going to be exploring different human and physical features of the United Kingdom as well as looking at the different countries within.
In computing we will be learning about how we can present information and text in different ways.
We will do this by creating quizzes, making a fact file and a presentation which we can show to the class.
In RE we will be learning about Islam and focusing how Muslims show respect to Allah in everyday life.
We will learn about the 5 Pillars of Islam and identify the importance of charity, fasting and prayer.
In PE, we will be focusing on athletics and building skills and techniques in controlling and changing a movement and aiming objects towards a target.
In DT Year 2 will be designing and creating their own headdress.
We will exploring different materials and designs as well as identifying methods of joining materials.
In Music we will be exploring improvisation.
Looking at different pieces of music and having a go to play a range of instruments and sing along.
We will be exploring the question
How does music make you happy?
In RHE we are going to be looking at Onine Safety and Relationships. We will look at how we can be safe online and how to protect ourselves.
