“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – That is the goal of education.” - Martin Luther King Jr.
In recent years, the global community has recognised that the relationship between success and soft skills is equally as important as the tangible skills and knowledge gained from a quality education. With this in mind, the Inspire Partnership has developed Character Skills that will provide children with the skills needed to be successful members of the local and global community in the 21st century.
The five overarching skills: Wonder, Integrity, Leadership, Relationships, and Mindset have been identified by employers, lead researchers, child psychologists, and educators as common attributes that drive success. The Inspire Character Skills document provides adults with the tools needed to identify and assess children’s current character strengths and plan opportunities to develop other areas.
Within our curriculum, we teach the character skills both explicitly, as well as embed them within our learning journeys and daily lessons. We see them as a core component to a successful curriculum, and therefore aim to build them into all areas of our practice.
