Writing Poetry

Writing Poetry

Hello, I notice that we all are locked inside due to the COVID-19 crisis, but this is not sad containment, it’s creative containment! There are many ways to be sad during this time, but pull out an eraser and make that sad, happy! In quarantine, you could write poetry!

Poetry is an amazing hobby, it can expand your horizons, as well as help you to learn new things! It causes you to become more creative, just thinking of ways to make things better. It's extraordinary! Writing poetry is delightful. Take it from me, just writing and looking back at what YOU made is the best possible feeling.

Writing poetry is simple. Look around, the first thing you see is your main focus. Did you know a large portion of the world thinks poetry has to rhyme? Guess what? IT DOESN'T! A poem is a poem, no matter what. Grab a utensil, a piece of paper and Write. It's that simple, literally nothing else.

Did you know that poetry has been around since before the 14th century? The first poem that we know of is “The Epic of Gilgamesh.” The first ever poet we know by name is the daughter of Sargon, Enheduanna. In more recent years poetry has changed, it used to be something not many people do. Now there are over 40,000 famous poets, such as Shel Silverstein, Walter Dean Myers, Robert Frost, William Blake, William Carlos Williams, and James Whitcomb Riley to name a few. There are lots of poets few have heard of and still have great poetry and have fun when creating it.

It’s enjoyable making poetry and a nice use of time, it's nice making or doing something pleasant. It can make you more clever by including words in our life that evolve your vocabulary. If you're interested in writing poetry, do it! Sure not many people know you write, but you like it. Who knows, you might even be recognized for it.
