Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
On Monday, we welcomed the children back from half term and it was lovely seeing them all race in to school so eagerly! Year R were excited to see the new activities in their outside area around fairy tales and engaged in them immediately. Year 1 were intrigued when they returned to their classrooms to see mystery objects and clues on the floor - they spent time investigating them and trying to work out where they came from! Year 4 had an energetic morning participating in an orienteering session as a hook into their new core text. What a busy first day back for everyone!
On Tuesday, we welcomed Rupinder Bansil, Trust Leader, Andrew Lawrence, Chair of Trustees and Marc Rowland into school to showcase the learning happening across the classes. It was lovely to see the children so engaged and able to talk to our visitors so confidently - we are very proud of each and everyone of them - well done! All were very complementary about what they saw and gave us lots of positive feedback. Year 6 were busy multiplying fractions in maths and using a dictionary to find the definitions of new words - we look forward to seeing them use these words in their next writing outcomes. In English, Year 3 were busy gathering facts and sharing these with their partners ready to use in their own writing.
The morning on Wednesday commenced with Milo and Skippy welcoming everyone in at the gates - it has been lovely to have Skippy back in school with us. Year 4 enjoyed their first swimming lesson of the term and it was great to see them improving their technique and understanding of how to stay safe in the water. Meanwhile in school, Year 6 enjoyed getting to know some key black historical figures with some drama today in English.
Year 5 on Thursday worked in small groups to build an argument for freeing Prisoner Forty-two, a character in their core test, 'Who Let the Gods Out'. The children worked well as part of a team for this activity and focussed on developing their oracy skills further. Year 2 have been working hard in maths on developing their understanding of sharing and equal groups. They have tried really hard with a tricky concept - showing great resilience and determination, well done.
Year 1 had their Learning with your Child on Friday morning and it was lovely to see so many parents coming to support their children during this session - we really do appreciate your support and engagement. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to join these sessions.
Wishing you all a fantastic weekend and see you all on Monday.
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
