Maundene Weekly

________________________

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Monday, it was lovely to see the children return after the Easter break and we all hope you had a restful few weeks. Year 6 started their learning using the core text, Pig-Heart Boy, and had a silent debate to work out who should get the heart transplant - many thoughtful and powerful discussions were had amongst the children. Year R enjoyed their revamped sand pit area where they were sharing the items really well and thinking about how to build the best sandcastle! A big thank you to Mrs Read, Miss Magill, Miss Clarke, Miss Heath. Mr Levey and PTA Emma for coming in during the Easter break to complete this work.

On Tuesday, Year 3 have been creating their own school rules in English and discussed which laws they would pass if they were Prime Minister for one day. This is in keeping with their core text, 'The Accidental Prime Minster' by Tom McLaughlin. Year 1 started their new science topic and were clarifying animals and then compared the different animals that were in the same categories.

Wednesday morning started with Year 5 having their first swimming lesson of the term and they were all keen and eager to be in school on time. The staff commented on how well they started their lessons and that they all wanted to be involved - well done Year 5! Year R have been busy getting their planting area ready and planting vegetables and herbs. They also enjoyed smelling the basil and coriander - we look forward to seeing what they manage to grow later this year!

On Thursday, the sun was shining and we were able to let the children play on the school field for the first time this year - so much more space and freedom! Year 2 were working on their fraction knowledge in maths - they used resources to find the parts and whole and demonstrated the character skill of relationships really well. Year 6 all gathered in the hall to take part in interviewing the characters from their core text to get quotes for the newspaper article they will be writing in English.

Friday started with a Learning with your Child session for Year 5 and, as always, it is so lovely to see so many parents take time to attend these. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy days to spend time with your children. Year 4 have been continuing to learn from their core text, 'Wonder' and have been looking at what makes them unique and special.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday.

Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
