Maundene Weekly

"Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow."

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope you have had a wonderful week - we even had a spot of snow!

EYFS had a busy start to their week where they were starting to write a recipe for biscuits. Our Head Pupils also had a busy start to their week where they met with Mrs Jackson to start creating an assembly about our school expectations, including break time and lunch time. The children were very articulate about what they expect across the school and are really excited to share this with the school next week during an assembly.

Year 6 had a chance to look around the Book Fair on Tuesday morning. The children read the blurbs of a range of books and then picked their favourites.  In the afternoon, Year 5 worked in small groups to recall their knowledge about insect and amphibian life cycles. Doves thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Morrisons and completed the 'Foodmaker and Shopkeeper Tour'. The children learnt all about different foods, how much Morrisons sell and where they come from.

On Wednesday, the children in Year 1-3 participated in a visit from an author called James Jefferson. He was dressed as a ‘Spaceman’ and his ‘alien friend’, E.T. even arrived too! The visit inspired children about Space and to gave them an opportunity to explore rocks and photographs taken from Space. The children also had an opportunity to listen to James Jefferson’s new book, ‘I want to go to Space’ and had their own copy signed!

Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Kent Life on Thursday where they were learning more about WWII. The children explored a World War 2 house, visited the Home Guard and loved the rag rug making workshop.

On Friday morning, Owls had their Class Assembly to parents. The children confidently stood in front of parents, carers and other classes in the school to share their learning from the term so far. Well done Owls! In the afternoon, Year 5, Year 6 and Choir visited Dove Close to sing Christmas Carols to the residents. The children made us feel so proud as they sang loudly and spread the Christmas cheer! After school, the Choir commenced the Christmas Fair by performing on the playground next to the reindeers. Thank you to the PTA for arranging such an amazing Christmas Fair for our Community. We absolutely loved it!

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team

Dove Close

Parking Reminder

Unfortunately, there have been a number of people who have parked very dangerously this week outside of the school gates. This is a reminder to park sensibly and use Morrisons Carpark to leave your car when dropping and collecting your children. It is extremely  important to us that our community feel safe and we have had numerous reports this week about how dangerous it has been, almost resulting in accidents.
