Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
On Monday morning, Kingfishers and Doves enjoyed the outdoor activities which included finding bugs that were frozen in the ice and building cars in the construction area. Within the indoor provision, the children absolutely loved selecting materials to create their own Gruffalo masks which were associated with their core text, 'The Gruffalo'!
The Maundene Choir were absolutely thrilled to attend Young Voices 2024 at the 02 on Tuesday. The children sang so beautifully and loved wearing their Young Voices t-shirts with pride. Thank you to all of the adults who supported with this event, particularly Emma Spice, who planned the entire thing and Miss Pomphrey, Emma Walton and Aimee Rogers who accompanied the children! Finches and Kestrels had an exciting music lesson in the afternoon on Tuesday where they composed their own music to accompany the story of the trolls in the 'Hall of the Mountain King'. In the afternoon, Woodpeckers and Falcons took part in an experiment during their science lesson in which they used push and pull motions on different objects to observe what happens when they apply force and acceleration to them. At the end of the day, Jays and Robins had reading buddies and shared their much-loved reading texts with one another.
In the morning on Wednesday, Ravens and Owls had another exciting swimming lesson where they continued to build on their swimming skills. Throughout their science lesson on Wednesday, Ospreys and Eagles were learning about periscopes and how they can be used to see which links to their topic of light. In addition to this Year R were learning their new 'sign of the week' which is "Good Morning". There is a wonderful video on our Twitter if you would like to see!
On Thursday, Eagles and Ospreys worked hard to perfect their sketching skills and created some great tree silhouettes. In their maths lesson, Blackbirds and Robins worked collaboratively to learn about symmetry and then drew symmetrical lines on shapes. After school, KS1 Craft Club had a busy evening on Thursday where they made paper plate dinosaurs - they look absolutely fabulous!
Year 3 had a Learning with your Child workshop on Friday morning which focused on writing. Thank you for supporting your children and attending this event. The children loved showcasing the use of bubble writing and using wordmats to participate in writing activities about particular images. In the afternoon, Year 4 had Reading with your Child in the afternoon on Friday which provided the children with an opportunity to read with their parents and carers, sharing their favourite books together. Reading is an extremely important part of the curriculum - please encourage your children to read at home at least three times a week!
Well done for all of your hard work this week everybody. We hope you have a lovely weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team

NSPCC Maths Number Day
NSPCC Number Day 2024 will take place on Friday 2nd February.
We will be working to solve exciting maths puzzles in our classes, against the clock with Buddy, the 'Speak out. Stay safe' mascot. The children are invited to Dress up for Digits and wear an item of clothing with a number on it (football shirt, cap, netball shirt or even a onesie!) or get even more creative by dressing in a maths or numbers theme. In addition to this, KS2 children will also be taking part in a friendly competition involving schools in the United Kingdom on Times Table Rock Stars throughout the day.
To help raise money for the NSPCC, we are asking for donations. Please donate online:
Safer Internet Day
