Maundene Weekly

“The most wasted of all days is one without laughter"
Dear Parents/Carers,
It has been another lovely week! The children have continued to settle extremely well into their new classes and across the school they are enthused in their learning.
On Monday, Year 6 enjoyed their first PE lesson of the year which focused on the skills of tennis and Year 1 loved their first music lesson of the year where they were developing their understanding of rhythm and beat.
Year 5 commenced their learning about Peer Pressure in RSHE on Tuesday. The children discussed what they believe peer pressure is and created Jamboards on laptops to share their ideas.
On Wednesday, Year 3 had an engaging DT lesson where they were using Jamboards to create a moodboard about their learning which focused on plastic fashion. In the afternoon, Year 3 and 6 enjoyed their first Reading Buddies of the year where they shared their books and listened to one another read. Well done Year R for their first full day on Wednesday. The children have displayed resilience and made some new friends this week.
On Thursday, Year 1 displayed some amazing writing skills during their Early Morning Work when they first came into school. The children demonstrated good letter formation and held their pencils correctly to help them form letters. Year 2 enjoyed their hook lesson from their core text 'Islandborn' where they explored images, flags and maps of the Dominican Republic, as well as tasting some fruit from the country in order to support them in making predictions about what they believe their new core text will be about.
Today Year 5 were focusing on developing their knowledge of relative clauses by working together to build interesting sentences in their English lesson. In the afternoon, Year 2 had Reading with their Child in the afternoon where the children modelled their reading to parents/carers. Thank you for everyone who came in to share reading with their children.
The children have worked really hard this week and settled into their new classes really well. Well done to all the children who completed their 11+.
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
