Maundene Weekly

"It's never too late to be what you might have been."

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Monday afternoon, the children in Year R had a singalong to parents which was absolutely amazing. The children sang their little hearts out and we felt so proud of them. Well done Reception! In addition to this, we received a letter from Dove Close thanking the children in Year 5, Year 6 and The Choir for visiting and singing Christmas Carols to the residents. Well done to the children for singing so beautifully. We have definitely started a new yearly Maundene tradition!

Tuesday was Christmas Jumper Day and the children across the school looked fabulous in their Christmas outfits. The children in Kingfishers and Doves had a busy start to their morning as they were set a challenge to find the tricky word 'the' as many times as they could within their learning environment. The children absolutely loved this challenge and worked together as a team to spot the word and then rehearse writing it in a variety of different places. For lunch on Tuesday, it was Christmas Dinner Day! Thank you to the amazing ladies in the kitchen for cooking and serving up Christmas dinner for over 300 children and staff. We really appreciate everything you do for our children and community. Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and other members of staff supported with serving the dinners as a yearly tradition too, which the children were extremely excited about and Mrs Cook kept the children in the dinner hall entertained by encouraging them to do a bit of Christmas Karaoke! In the afternoon on Tuesday, the children who are in RockSteady bands performed in a Concert. The Bands performed to the other children in the school and then to their parents. They did absolutely amazingly - well done everybody!

On Wednesday, Year 1 completed their first double page spread in science to showcase their knowledge about materials. Year 4 continued working hard to consolidate their learning about World War 2 through creating a presentation on the Chromebooks. In the afternoon on Wednesday, KS2 had their annual Christmas Carol Service at Christ the King Church. The children sang so beautifully and narrated the Christmas story so well. We are proud of each and every one of our Maundene Family. Thank you to everyone to attended this event.

Year 1 and Year 2 performed their Christmas Play to the Year 2 parents on Thursday morning and afternoon. What a wonderful show it was! The children spoke clearly and sang with such confidence. Thank you to all parents who attended and to the PTA for providing refreshments for this event. In the afternoon on Thursday, Year 5 published their English learning which was a written explanation about the water cycle in preparation for their publishing board to be displayed. Some of the children in Year 5 had an extremely engaging English lesson where they used their instructions that they had written to make a jam sandwich. Year 3 and Year 6 loved swapping for Reading Buddies on Thursday and sharing their much-loved books with one another.

Year 1 and Year 2 had their final performance of their Christmas Play on Friday morning. Well done to all of the children and teachers for working so hard to ensure the Christmas Performance was amazing! Also, a huge thank you to Year 4 for collecting donations for the Medway Rotary Shoebox Appeal, which will be distributed to refugees around Europe. This collection was associated with their learning about refugees in the 21st Century. Thank you to everyone who contributed, you will make a difference to someone's life by doing this.

Tuesday 19th December will be Christmas Party afternoon and the PTA have provided a huge snack box to each class with a huge variety of snacks for the children. Children are invited to wear their own clothes for the day and food or snacks do not need to be provided from home. The PTA are just asking for a £1 donation to be made on the on the PTA SumUp shop.

https://friends-of-maundene-pta1.sumupstore.com. Thank you to the PTA for organising this event for the children!

There will not be a newsletter next week, therefore please remember that Wednesday 20th December is the last day of term. Miss Capes is excited about presenting Headteacher Awards on this day, which will be a fantastic way to end the term.

We hope you have a wonderful break. Enjoy time with family and friends and we will see you back to school on Tuesday 9th January 2024.
