Maundene Weekly

"To find your talent, you need to seek it."

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope you have had a lovely week.

Firstly, we would like to say an enormous thank you to our incredible PTA who organised the most fantastic Firework Night. It was amazing to see so many of you attending the event and supporting Maundene. Thank you!

On Monday, Year R enjoyed exploring the new activities within their provision which linked to their core text, 'Lunch at 10 Pomegranate Street'. The children focused on healthy meals and developed their cutting skills by creating their own 'healthy plates' of food. In the afternoon, Year 1 continued to develop their knowledge about tri golf from the previous week and they practiced rolling a ball and catching it. During their art lesson, Year 4 experimented using coffee for painting. The children were amazed by the results, but were not impressed by the smell!

Mrs Jackson had a productive meeting with the Junior Leadership Team on Monday where the children focused on Behaviour for Learning across the school. The children observed behaviour during break time and conducted their own learning walk around the school whilst classes were learning. The Junior Leadership Team then gave feedback to class teachers about what they had observed. They particularly focused on giving positives and possible solutions or next steps to improve behaviour for learning.

Year R thoroughly enjoyed tasting a variety of fruits on Tuesday morning. The children used their knowledge of senses to describe the smell, the feel and the taste of each one. In addition to this, the children were encouraged to use descriptive language like; crunchy, juicy, sweet, sour and yummy! During their English lesson, Year 3 mindmapped ways to improve our school environment and participated in their very own litter pick around the school. Their learning was linked to their core text entitled, 'Greta and the Giants'. Throughout their maths lesson, Year 5 explored square numbers and used counters to help them investigate what a square number is and they then explained how they knew.

Wednesday morning commenced with Celebration Assembly. Our favourite assembly of the week on Wednesday celebrated more achievements - Stars of the Week, Timestable Rockstars and Spellers of the Week. Well done everyone, you should feel very proud of yourself for your hard work. In the morning on Wednesday, Year 4 were applying their times table knowledge in their arithmetic lesson. The children know how integral times tables are and are understanding how they can apply it to all of their maths learning.

On Thursday morning, Year 1 loved using the TV screen in their classroom to practice their fact families in maths, focusing on number bonds to 10. In their English lesson, Year 5 were learning about using passive and active voice in their writing. The children thoroughly enjoyed creating their own sentences using either an active or passive voice.

Today the children in Year 5 had a Learning with your Child workshop which focused on maths. The children loved working through a variety of activities with their parents/carers, demonstrating their progress and confidence in maths. Thank you to so many parents and carers who attended the workshop.

Please remind your children to participate in the Times Table Rockstars Competition which is entitled 'England Rocks Competition' between 14th-16th November to earn as many points as possible for Maundene!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
