The European Union and you

Some people might think that:

  • all the people in the EU have the same living conditions.
  • our life expectancy is the same as in Poland.
  • all Europeans have the same quality of air as in Finland.
  • Young people in Denmark leave home at the same age as in Spain.

But... are we all the same? We have similarities and differences. Let's find out!

TASK 6 (group): Satisfaction? Quality of life

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Access EUROSTAT - QUALITY OF LIFE

2. Each group must choose a different country of the EU

3. Now:

    • 2 or 3 members of your group research about that country and compare that country with the EU
    • 2 or 3 members of your group research about Spain and compare Spain with the EU

4. Finally, in your group compare your country and Spain:

    • Which country has a better standard of living? Why?
    • Which country has a standard of living closer to the European average? In what?
    • Why do you think so?

5. Write the result of your research in a shared drive document.

TASK 7 (group): Young Europeans

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Access EUROSTAT - YOUNG EUROPEANS

2. Each group must choose a different country of the EU

3. Now:

    • 2 or 3 members of your group will answer the questions as a 16 year old citizen of that country
    • 2 or 3 members of your group will answer the questions as a 16 year old Spanish citizen

4. Gender point of view: you can choose if your character is a young man or a young woman. Research about your gender, but also check the information of the other gender.

5. Answer the questions as 16 year old students

6. To do this, go into "My family" and "My free time and my studies". Check the EU average (average = mitjana)

7. Finally compare your answers:

    • In the country you have studied, are there differences between men and women? Why do you think there are these gender differences?
    • Why do you think these differences exist?
    • Which is the country closer to the European average?

8. Write the result of your research in a shared drive document.
