Geography

Europe organises the Eurovision Song Contest, the Champions League and the Europa League. The European Union establishes rules for its member states.

Do Eurovision, Champions League, Europa League, European Union and Europe refer to the same geographical space? Probably, because all these concepts have something to do with Europe.

But let's make it easy! Let's check it.

TASK 1 (group): MAPS OF EUROPE

You must draw a map including different concepts. On this map, you have to place the different countries that:

    • form the European Union
    • participate in the Eurovision song contest
    • participate in the Champions League

    • draw the outline (=perfil) of the countries that:
        • belong to the EU in BLUE
        • participate in the Champions League in GREEN
        • participate in the Eurovision song contest in RED
    • the title of the map must be written in BLACK CAPITAL LETTERS.
    • the names of the countries must also be written in BLACK CAPITAL LETTERS, for example: SPAIN, FRANCE...
    • the EU capital cities must be written in red lower case writing (=minĂºscules) , for example: Madrid, Paris...
    • you must place the cities of the main EU institutions in underlined red lower case writing, for example: Strasbourg.
    • the legend must include the content you represent on the maps. For example: COUNTRY, Capital city.

TASK 2 (group): ANALYSIS OF THE MAPS

Once you have finished the maps, analyse them, answer these questions and write down your ideas and conclusions:

  1. Do the three organizations coincide? Why?
  2. Do you think that all the countries that participate in the Eurovision song contest are European? Are some countries more European than other countries? Explain.
  3. Are all European countries in the European Union? So, are Europe and the European Union the same thing? Why?

  • Your group will get the shape of two or three countries of the EU
