This week is all about the NASA logo and it's mission patches.

Logo: a symbol that is used to identify a company and that appears on its products
Symbol: a letter, group of letters, character, or picture that is used instead of a word or group of words
Unique: used to say that something or someone is unlike anything or anyone else
The NASA logo, nicknamed the Meatball, contains several symbols important to the space program.
The sphere represents the shape of the planets.
The stars represent space.
The red chevron represents aeronautics (air travel).
The oval represents orbit (the path traveled around a planet).
Every NASA mission is represented by a patch that is designed by the astronauts and worn on their flight suit. Watch this video to learn more about how each patch is unique to it's mission.
Design a mission patch that represents your family. Think about what symbols you want to include that are special or important to your family. What colors will you use? What shape will your patch be?
