As part of the project, a total of two student mobility placements for internships and three staff training mobility placements have been carried out.
The two beneficiaries of the student mobility placements were second-year students from the Higher Vocational Education and Training program in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory. The first student mobility consisted of an internship at the host institution Instituto de Biología Molecular João Lobo Antunes in Lisbon (Portugal). During her stay, our student worked in the biobank, performing tasks such as aliquoting, storing, and registering biological samples, as well as processing cell cultures, and extracting and quantifying DNA. This internship lasted for 60 days, from March 14 to May 13, 2023, and during this time, the student completed the Work Placement module (FCT).
The second student mobility, completed by a student from an economically disadvantaged background, consisted of an internship at the host institution Asc Oncology in Berlin (Germany). During her stay, our student participated in clinical research trials focused on analyzing patients’ solid tumors, recreating their biological environment in the laboratory, and testing various therapies to identify which is most effective for each specific case. This internship also lasted for 60 days, from March 17 to May 16, 2024, and during this period, the student completed the Work Placement module (FCT).
In the context of staff training mobility placements, the first, in the form of job shadowing, was completed by a teacher from the Vocational Training Health Sciences department from October 3 to October 7, 2022, in Porvoo, Finland, with the host institution Borgå Folkakademi. During her stay, the teacher visited several vocational training centers, where she learned about the Finnish education system, including the dual vocational training model and the professional competency accreditation system. Notable visits included the Careeria Vocational Training Center, the Prakticum Institute in Helsinki, the Porvoo Vocational Training Institute, and the Mercuria Institute in Vantaa. At each institution, the teacher had the opportunity to learn about innovative educational methodologies, many of which were based on digital tools and specialized simulators for healthcare techniques.
The second staff training mobility was completed by a teacher and head of studies from our school, IES Sancti Petri, from February 27 to March 3, 2023, in Schwandorf (Germany), hosted by the Carl-Friedrich-Gauß Gymnasium. During this job-shadowing experience, the teacher learned about the German education system, including various types of schools such as Gymnasium, Realschule, Mittelschule, FOS, and BOS. She visited the Berufliches Schulzentrum, where she observed practical classes and learned about inclusion programs for immigrant students and those with difficulties. She also visited Netto Marken-Discount, where she explored how German companies collaborate in the implementation of the dual vocational training system, receiving direct information about companies' involvement in student training. Additionally, she participated in workshops discussing innovative educational programs such as LEMAS, focused on talent identification, and MINT, aimed at promoting science among female students.
The last staff training mobility, executed as part of this project, was completed by a teacher from the Vocational Training Health Sciences department in the Italian city of Avezzano, from May 11 to May 15, 2024, with the Istituto d'Istruzione Superiore Arrigo Serpieri as the host institution. At this institute, the teacher observed activities in microbiology, biology, and food processing laboratories, as well as participating in projects related to agriculture and sustainability. During her stay, the teacher also had the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of the Italian vocational training system, visiting several institutions and companies in the healthcare and automotive sectors, notably the Clínica Di Lorenzo and the Sapere Aude healthcare professions center, where she familiarized herself with biomedical training methodologies and learned about innovative programs for digital and healthcare competency certification. In the automotive sector, she visited several companies such as Serpetti-Stellantis, Tecnogomme Lancia, and Power Tech, where she observed the vocational training system related to technical training in the automotive field.
