PORVOÓ - FINLAND
OCTOBER 2022
As part of the Erasmus+ Program, last October, a group of five teachers from IES Sancti Petri, belonging to vocational training, participated in a job shadowing activity by visiting various vocational education centers in Finland.
The objective of these visits was to gain a practical and firsthand view of the Finnish vocational education system, in order to gather ideas and proposals that could be applied to our own center.
During the stay, the teachers attended vocational training centers for different professional fields, some of which are also offered at our center, such as Electricity and Electronics, Automotive, and Healthcare.
By observing different professional fields, it was possible to witness the highly flexible and innovative methodology used in the Finnish educational system.
It is worth highlighting the autonomy with which students work, as well as the strong trust that exists between teachers and students. In all the classes at the centers visited, there is extensive use of computers and technological resources, along with an infrastructure of innovative design.
The Finnish teaching staff showed great willingness towards the teachers from our center, and the planned organization, class visits, and the information provided were very positive.
We will strive to implement some of the observed aspects, with adaptations to our culture and way of life, to continue with the modernization and internationalization of IES Sancti Petri.
These 5 teachers participated in this Erasmus mobility thanks to the KA1-131 and KA1-121 programs.

SCHWANDORF - GERMANY
MARCH 2023
Our colleague Cristina Manzanedo visited Schwandorf, Germany, to learn about the German educational system and its various types of schools, including the Gymnasium, Realschule, Mittelschule, FOS, and BOS.
Here is a summary of her stay:
On Monday, February 27th, we arrived at the host school, Carl-Friedrich-Gauß Gymnasium in Schwandorf, Germany. After a welcome breakfast, we held a meeting to review the work plan for the week and made a schedule change regarding the visit to the company "Netto." Following that, we took a tour of the school and all its facilities. Once the tour was completed and after lunch, our contact person guided us on a small cultural tour of the cities of Schwandorf and Regensburg.
On the second day of the visit, we began with a meeting with the deputy director of the center, Francisco García, who explained the German educational system to us. In addition, he informed us about some of the center’s programs:
LEMAS Program: A talent development research program from the Federal Ministry of Education. This program aims to contribute to school and teacher development through a network of schools by promoting interdisciplinary research with 18 universities. The universities provide strategies and measures for schools to identify and foster the talents of their students early on.
MINT Promotion: A program from the center that aims to spread and promote the sciences among girls.
After this interesting presentation of the center’s programs, we visited two local institutions: FOS and Berufliches Schulzentrum. During these visits, we learned more in-depth about vocational training, particularly the Dual Vocational Training system, and visited some practical classes. We also learned about an inclusion plan implemented at the second institution for immigrant students and those facing difficulties.
On Wednesday, we attended a working session where we were able to learn about the organization and management of the "Carl-Friedrich-Gauß Gymnasium." We also attended an English class and a biology class, and we visited the school's laboratories.
On the fourth day of the visit, we discussed topics such as inclusive education and the relationships established between the center and companies and institutions.
Next, we visited the company “Netto Marken-Discount Stiftung & Co.” There, we were welcomed by the Human Resources manager, who gave us a presentation on how the Dual Vocational Training system works from the company's perspective.
On the last day of the visit, we took a cultural tour of the city of Munich. There, we visited places and landmarks such as Marienplatz with the Town Hall, Nymphenburg Palace, Odeonsplatz, and the Cathedral, among others.
Conclusions
The visit, made possible through the Erasmus+ program, has been beneficial and positive in every way. As the Erasmus+ motto states, these types of experiences enrich your life and open your mind. During this visit, I was able to learn about another educational system, a different way of approaching and viewing education and vocational training, I developed my language skills in other languages, English and German, and I got to know another culture and way of life.
