At the beginning of the school year, from 11 to 15 September 2023, the teachers Inma Gordillo, Plácida Lobato and Mercedes Rodríguez attended a training course in Prague, Czech Republic, called
"Innovative Approaches to Teaching".
It was a practical guide to help improve quality and effectivity of educational process in any classroom. The different course modules were meant to broaden teaching potential and motivate students by encouraging creativity, organising projects, integrating minority pupils or using ICT as a tool for developing critical thinking.
The person in charge of teaching the course is called Smriti Vasistha, Academic director.
The three teachers were the only Spanish people participating in this course. The rest of the group was made up of teachers from Italy and Malta, 25 in total.
The course was taught entirely in English, where the teacher always encouraged active participation, group work, discussion and debate, etc.
Throughout the week, our teachers learned about the 21st century education and skills; differences between Critical and Creative thinking; differences between Games, Gamification and Game-Based Learning; Flipped Classroom; they were also taught how to use different applications related to education, with which they can now work with their students (Goosechase, Storyjumper, Edpuzzle), as long as different writing, reading and speaking skills to put into practice in their lessons (Metacognitive activities).
One of the afternoons was dedicated to getting to know the city, when our teachers were able to enjoy the history and the most significant places of the Czech capital, such as the Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock, the Powder Tower and Charles Bridge.
For them, the experience was very positive, as not only did they learn about the history and culture of the city, but they also developed their communication skills in English, met people from other countries with whom they could interact and exchange experiences. Regarding education, the teachers came back full of knowledge, experiences and original ideas to implement in their classrooms and with which to improve the quality of our teaching. In fact, one of these techniques, Goosechase, has already been used with the Erasmus students, and it has been a successful interactive and cooperative learning activity.
