Environmental Presentations
The students talked about the environmental of our city and the attitudes of citizens because in Sanlúcar there is a large accumulation of waste and few environmental political laws.
Later, our students talked about some good practices which were put into practice in our school, one pilot experience on recycling, the first ecofeminist week and the waste geolocation.
To finish, three students explained a game about recycling, the others students had to throw the waste in its corresponding container.
On Tuesday, our students were in Esposende, (a coast city), and there, they visited the interpretation center.. It consists of an interpretation center of life in the pre-Roman and Roman times in these territories. The archaeologist showed us the original museum and the pieces on display. Later, we visited a nearby hermitage with impressive views of the sea and beaches.
We went down to the beach and walked around it, commenting on the impact of the breakwaters and ports on the sedimentary dynamics caused by the loss of sand on the beach and how subsequent measures are solutions that do not work in the long term.
After lunch we headed to Barcelos where an environmental technician from the town hall gave us a masterful talk on climate change, its causes and its consequences, becoming aware of our ecological footprint and that we currently need 2.5 planets to meet our demands. of consumption. The students participated in the debate that was opened and we talked about what each of us can do.
On Wednesday, we did a section of the "Camino de Santiago". Before beginning, they informed us of their history and "la compostelana".
We took a bus to Viana do Castello where we visited the church of Santa Lucía with impressive views.. From there we cross the bridge over the mouth of the Cavado River.
From there we move to the city to visit it freely and observe its many monuments.
On Thursday we attended some classes based on proposing a business in the environmental field to solve different environmental problems as overexploitation of resources, forest fires and air pollution from vehicle traffic.
Our students had to make a logo, a slogan, objectives, to whom their economic activity was directed and the phases of the project. It was proposed:
Set up an application to notify about the risk of fire and to be able to contact the authorities.
A bicycle bus for trips around the city focused on school transport and other types of transport.
A fast-burning cigarette that minimizes the risk of fire.
A bulk store without plastic packaging...
Later we went to the Barcelos ceramics museum where a guide showed us the great variety of ceramics that are made in this town, their origin and their evolution.
In the afternoon, a biologist spoke to us about the different types of vegetation in the world and specifically the vegetation that we could see on the banks of the Barcelos river. We were able to guess by touch and smell different plant elements without using sight and observe some of them with a magnifying glass.
From there we went to the bank of the river where they had carried out garbage collection to reforest with native species and elimination of allochthonous vegetation.
We left Barcelos saying goodbye to the families, although the Portugueses students would accompany us on this journey.
We headed to the town of Gaia where we visited several thematic establishments. Later we took a boat with which we would take a tour of the Duero River, describing the elements that we found on both banks of the river as well as the bridges that cross it. We cross the Luis I bridge walking until we reach the riverside area.
We left Porto for the airport and there the students said goodbye to their hosts with tears in their eyes and great sadness for the farewell, but with great joy for what they had experienced.
