First of all, in order to be accepted for this programme, you must be 18-30 years old. And that’s the most important rule. To apply or get involved your financial status doesn’t matter, you can be at any level of education, have a various work experience and your ability to speak the foreign language doesn’t have to be perfect too! What is really required is your willingness to do something for others, to learn, to get to know other’s people mentality and attitude towards life.
Generally, there are two kinds of projects: short term (1-2 months) and long term (2-12 months). You can participate in the project only once, but you can apply for the short term project, and then participate in the long term one (but not the other way around).
More official information you can find here, at the ESC official website: europa.eu/youth/solidarity_es and also on ESC facebook page.
Usually, the whole Europe is at your fingertips. The important thing to remember, if you’d like to travel abroad, is that not every sending organisation is cooperating with every single country in Europe (it means, that working with the specific project sometimes can’t be possible, because they’re only for people, for example, from Belgium). But if you create your account and you search for different projects (while logged in) only opportunities accessible for you will show up!
It’s impossible to hide the importance of money in everyday life. Depending on the country you will travel to, from the project grant you will receive pocket money and if not food itself – money for the food. Also your travel costs, rent and flat expenses will be covered (for example, for travelling to Germany/Poland/Portugal/… and back to Spain you will receive 275€). So, if you're willing to learn maintaining your daily expenses - you really won't have to pay for anything.
More information about finance and other FAQs you can find here: europa.eu/youth/solidarity/faq_es
There’s a variety of things you can do and every each of them is related to the specific project topic, for example: social challenges, health and wellbeing, education and training, disaster prevention and recovery, environment and natural protection… So finding something that may catch your eye usually is a time consuming task.

Hi, I'm Kinga!
I came to Tortosa from Poland. I have to admit - travelling to Spain was a huge step out of my comfort zone, but the hottest season is still ahead of me... :)
I've decided to participate in ESC because of very simple reasons. I wanted to change my life (at least just a little bit) and do something good for others. And I still want to do it.
Right now I'm a volunteer at Institut de l'Ebre. During the lockdown I was assigned to creating the text you're currently reading and translating course descriptions to English. Also! We have an English Speaking Club, which is not only the way to practice English, but also to get to know local culture and people (even while working online, which for me is pretty surprising but yet amazing!). Besides of simple topics like movies and hobbies we're not afraid of talking about serious things like government in different countries, feminism, procrastination and food ;)
If you want to, here you can find more information about me: my presentation in Catalan
