ENGLISH LANGUAGE ASSISTANT

Hello from the new English Language Assistant!

Hello everyone!

I’m Kahina and I started this week as the new English Language Assistant at Institut de l’Ebre!

I’m 23 years old, and I’m from the city of Leeds, in the north of England, UK. My hobbies are playing board games, listening to music, and painting my nails.

I’ll be here at school until May, and my job will be to help students practice speaking English in their classes.

I’m looking forward to getting to know you all and I hope that you enjoy practising your English with me!

See you around!

Rowing on the Ebre

Hello everyone!

This week our European volunteer, Lile, and myself had the opportunity to try rowing on the Ebre river with student representatives from the  school and teachers from the Tortosa Rowing Club. It was hard, but we had a great experience trying the different roles and getting to spend time on the river!

See you soon!

Institut de l'Ebre on TV!

Hello everyone!

This week we had the pleasure of being visited by Roger and Simona from Conecta 10 Comarques, who filmed a news segment about our English projects here at Institut de l'Ebre. As well as talking to students about their international mobility plans, they interviewed Lara, Lile and I about our experiences.

If you missed the original broadcast, you can watch the segment here.

See you soon!

Visit to the EOI

Hello everyone!

This Wednesday Lile, Enric, Lara and I visited the Escola Oficial d'Idiomes here in Tortosa with our students, as part of the EOI & FP Together programme.  We were able to see what a typical English class is like at the EOI, and we took part in different English activities. Thanks again to the lovely teachers and students at the EOI for hosting us!

See you soon!

British Culture Presentations

Hello everyone!

Throughout December and January, I’ve been talking about my country with students from many different classes. We discussed the different nations of the United Kingdom, our traditional foods, what the education system is like in the UK, and how British people like to spend our free time. It’s been great to share my culture with my students, and I hope it has been interesting for everyone else too!

See you soon!

English @ Jornades Tècniques 2023

Hello everyone!

Last week at Institut de l'Ebre, we celebrated the Jornades Tècniques 2023 and enjoyed countless fascinating activities organised by the different Professional Families.

In the Foreign Languages Department, we hosted the European Solidarity Corps volunteers, who gave a great talk about sustainability and their experiences here in Tortosa. We also learned about Metaphysical Pop Music with English teacher Alejandro. Finally, on Friday 24th, alongside students and staff in the Image and Sound Department, we filmed "3, 2, 1, Action!", an English-language quiz show in which teams of students from across school participated. Congratulations to Ayesha, Samuel and Èric of GAD 2n, the winners of the quiz!

Thanks again to everyone involved for their hard work!

See you soon!

Simulated Company Fair

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Plàstics Dertosa, Institut de l'Ebre had the pleasure of hosting its 3rd Simulated Company Fair on Thursday 20th April. In addition to 25 simulated companies from around Catalonia, we were also joined by  representatives from Ajuntament de Tortosa, Serveis Territorials, SEFED and Fundació Inform.

As well as competing for the best stand and best elevator pitch, the visiting companies took part in a Mystery Shopping competition, in which both their professional skills and English level was evaluated. Lile and I worked together with Cinta, Eva, Carme and Pau from 1r AF-ADI to judge each company and decide on the winner.

A big thank you and congratulations to everyone who was involved in planning this impressive event and to the companies who participated! #sumatal20

Thank you and goodbye!

Hi everyone!

Today (31st May) is my last day at Institut de l'Ebre after eight months, and to end the course, I want to share some of my reflections from this time.

First, I know it was difficult for you all to speak to me in English when I arrived, so I'd like to thank each and every one of the students and staff who made the effort to communicate with me. You should be very proud of yourselves for taking this brave step. I hope that having me in class and around school has been helpful for you, and that you'll move on from this course with more confidence to speak in English. Bravo!

Second, I want to acknowledge that this course has also been a learning experience for me. I knew nothing about FP before arriving, and thanks to the students and staff in the different professional families, I have discovered so many fascinating things - not only about your vocations, but about your culture, and even about life. I can't thank you enough for this. It has been challenging at times, but I wouldn't change the experience at all.

Finally, I would like to thank from the bottom of heart my wonderful colleagues in the Foreign Languages Department (Carme, Lara, Enric and Alejandro) and in the whole school. Thank you for welcoming me, for guiding me, and for supporting me in the tough moments. You have made me feel so at home while being 2000km from my country, which is something I will never forget. I also want to thank Lile, our European volunteer, for always being an example of solidarity and kindness.  დიდი მადლობა, მშვენიერი ადამიანი ხარ!

I hope we can all see each other again soon! Passeu molt bon estiu tots i totes, i de nou, moltíssimes gràcies per tot. Ha sigut un autèntic plaer treballar amb tots vosaltres.

Una abraçada molt fort,

Kahina 🇬🇧
