Padua is a city in the Veneto region, in northern Italy. It is known for Giotto's frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel, erected in 1303-05, and for the great Basilica of San Antonio, dating from the 13th century. The basilica, with its Byzantine-style domes and outstanding works of art, houses the tomb of the saint of the same name. In the old town of Padua there are arcaded streets and elegant cafeterias frequented by students of the University of Padua, founded in 1222.
OBJECTIVES
These are the objectives os this group mobility:
To arouse the need to explore innovative learning environments from international contexts as well as to meet pupils from other countries to promote intercultural communication and mutual respect.
To get to know cultural, social and professional models of the hosting community in order to be able to face the complexity of the
modern and global world.
To reflect about different approaches and methodologies to learning and be able to compare forms of interactions between the learners and the teachers in the hosting country.
To learn about scientific research and sustainable actions to limit water consume.
To improve communicative competence and to improve their knowledge of the English language, in particular, given that English is the vehicular language.
To enrich their curriculum thanks to the different guided visits related to the history of Padua and Venice.
In this video we can see a summary of the activities carried out and the opinion of students from different countries about the Erasmus + project in Italy.
PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES
During our stay in Padua, we worked in a project focused on water resources and the increasing environmental crisis which affects us and does not ensure equitable access to water for all. We also made different visits to emblematic places in the surrounding area, all of them realted with sustainable actions to limit water consume. At the same time, students took part in a workshop on ecosystem services with experts from ETIFOR, an international consulting firm that aims to restore the balance between people and nature.
Guided tour in Padua. First we visited Prato della Valle, which is the biggest square of the country and it's surrounded by many statues and a number of canals.
Then, we went to Basilica di Sant'Antonio di Padova, one of the largest churches in the world, visited annually by more than 6.5 million pilgrims. There we had the opportunity to see where the relics of Saint Anthony of Padua and his tomb are.
After a short break we went towards the squares of the traditional market, Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta and then we visited the building of the famous University of Padova founded in 1222, one of the first in Europe, with its Aula Magna where Galileo Galilei taught and the statue of Elena Cornaro, the first woman to graduate in the world.
Workshop at Rolando da Piazzola High School, using origami techniques to help students reflect and share ideas about sustainable actions to limit water consume and the need for future generations to become aware of the urgency, driving transformation from a global water crisis to a water-secure world.
As a result of teamwork, students also presented a dossier that we attach below.
Water springs of the river Bacchiglione. The area is an important wetland and thanks to the guided tour and the scientific experiments that the students carried out, we were able to learn about the world of groundwater and concepts of water balance.
We also did bird watching from the observation booths and didactic games on the recognition of animal and plant species typical of aquatic environments.
Guided tour in Venice. We learnt about local folklore, art and industries in order to better understand the traditions and lifestyles of the hosting culture and learn to respect and appreciate cultural differences.
We could verify the importance that water has for the inhabitants of Venice and how the global water crisis affects their daily lives.
STUDENTS' PRODUCTION
These are the final documents that students presented after debate and reflection activities on pollution, water scarcity and ways to reduce water waste.
