Esta maravillosa experiencia empezó el 31 de marzo de 2022, cuando llegamos a Jyväskylä, Finlandia, tras un largo viaje.

Nada más llegar, en la estación, desmentimos el mito de que todos los finlandeses son fríos cuando nuestras "host familys" nos dieron una cálida bienvenida con abrazos, lo que ayudó muchísimo a calmar nuestros nervios.

Los primeros días fueron alucinantes, tuve los primeros contactos con la ciudad y mi encantadora familia de acogida, además de la primera vez que vi el instituto. En resumen, me acostumbré rápido y profundamente a la vida finlandesa.

This wonderful experience began on March 31, 2022, when we arrived in Jyväskylä, Finland, after a long journey.

As soon as we arrived at the station, we debunked the myth that all Finns are cold when our host families gave us a warm welcome with hugs, which went a long way to calm our nerves.

The first days were amazing, I had the first contacts with the city and my lovely host family, as well as the first time I saw the high school. In short, I quickly and deeply got used to Finnish life.

Conforme los días pasaban, me di cuenta de la calidad de vida que hay en Finlandia. En primer lugar, la mayor parte de ellos viven en casas, al lado del bosque, a varios kilómetros de la ciudad, y el primer fin de semana ya experimenté sus visitas diarias tanto al jacuzzi como a la sauna.

Además el estilo de vida es impresionante, todo se lo toman con mucha calma y son muy respetuosos con el silencio para la comodidad de todos, lo que nos llevó a alguna situación divertida viniendo de la agitada y ruidosa España.

Otro dato importante es que en Finlandia se toman mucho más en serio el tema del reciclaje, de ahí que las calles estén mucho más limpias que en otros lugares de Europa.

As the days went by, I realized the quality of life in Finland. First of all, most of them live in houses, next to the forest, several kilometers from the city, and the first weekend I already experienced their daily visits to both the jacuzzi and the sauna.

In addition to the lifestyle, they take everything very calmly and are very respectful of silence for the comfort of all, which led us to some fun situations coming from hectic and noisy Spain.

Another important fact is that in Finland the issue of recycling is taken much more seriously, hence the streets are much cleaner than in other places in Europe.

Mi día a día era calmado, el instituto no es para nada como en España, allí lo más importante es la comodidad y el bienestar del alumnado, y las notas pasan a un segundo plano.

Las instalaciones son muy modernas y cuentan con todo tipo de pasatiempos, sofás, máquinas expendedoras, etc, para que los estudiantes se sientan como en casa.

De hecho, durante mi estancia presencié tres conciertos dirigidos por alumnos que fueron alucinantes.

La comida en el instituto era genial, además de gratis. Podía desayunar allí, tanto fruta, tostadas o porridge y luego comer una gran variedad de platos incluyendo comida tanto vegana como vegetariana.

My day to day was calm, the high school is not at all like in Spain, there the most important thing is the comfort and well-being of the students, and grades take a back seat.

The facilities are very modern and have all kinds of hobbies, sofas, vending machines, etc., so that students feel at home.

In fact, during my stay I attended three student-led concerts that were amazing.

The food at the institute was great, as well as free. I could have breakfast there, either fruit, toast or porridge and then eat a wide variety of dishes including both vegan and vegetarian

Mientras en España se celebraba la Semana Santa, en Finlandia celebramos, Vappu, una de las fiestas finlandesas más importantes en las que se bebe simä y se comen munkis.

Los estudiantes cobran gran importancia al celebrarla, ya que salen a las calles con sus monos de colores representando las carreras que estudian.

El ambiente estudiantil en las calles era genial, y se veían un montón de colores y mucha gente, que hacían que la ciudad rejuveneciese.

Además, presenciamos la Pascua, que a diferencia de cómo se celebra en España aquí los niños van en busca de los huevos de chocolate, y es una celebración muy importante.

While in Spain Holy Week was celebrated, in Finland we celebrated Vappu, one of the most important Finnish festivals in which simä is drunk and munkis are eaten.

The students take on great importance when celebrating it, since they go out into the streets with their colored overalls representing the careers they study.

The student atmosphere in the streets was amazing, and there were a lot of colors and a lot of people, which made the city rejuvenate.

We also witness Easter, which, unlike how it is celebrated in Spain, here children go in search of chocolate eggs, and it is a very important celebration.

A mitad de la estancia tuvimos la gran oportunidad de participar en una de las sesiones regionales de Finlandia del EYP “European Youth Parlament”, en el que disfruté de una nueva experiencia que me aportó nuevos conocimientos sobre problemas actuales y muy importantes a los que se está afrontando la UE.

Sin contar con que hice muchísimos amigos nuevos y participé en una simulación de la Asamblea General argumentando y debatiendo con mi comité.

In the middle of the stay we had the great opportunity to participate in one of the Finnish regional sessions of the EYP “European Youth Parliament”, in which I enjoyed a new experience that gave me new knowledge about current and very important problems that the EU is facing.

Not to mention that I made tons of new friends and participated in a simulation of the General Assembly arguing and debating with my committee

Mi estancia ha sido un auténtico placer gracias a mi fantástica familia de acogida y a Jyväskylä, una ciudad tranquila, muy bonita, y con una naturaleza sobrecogedora. Que a la vez, cuenta con un ambiente envidiable de alumnos de intercambio, tanto a nivel universitario como de instituto, lo que hace que pasar una temporada allí sea aún más divertido.

Durante estos dos meses he vivido muchas nuevas experiencias que han contribuido a que esta haya sido la mejor aventura de mi vida. Jutta, mi host sister, se ha convertido en mi segunda hermana, ya que hemos pasado unos meses increíbles juntas y hemos ganado muchísima confianza. Ahora puedo decir que siempre tendré otra familia en Finlandia.

He llegado a hacer cosas que nunca me habría imaginado, como meterme a un lago helado y dar de comer a un alce. Además, he probado miles de platos fineses diferentes, he hecho muchísimos amigo nuevos y he disfrutado de decenas de atardeceres en el bosque.

Todo esto sin contar con que esta experiencia me ha ayudado a aprender a cuidar de mí misma y a ser muchísimo más independiente. Por todas estas razones nunca olvidaré estos dos meses en Finlandia.

My stay has been a real pleasure thanks to my wonderful host family and Jyväskylä, a quiet, very beautiful city with an overwhelming nature. At the same time, it has an enviable atmosphere of exchange students, both at the university and high school levels, which makes spending time there even more fun.

During these two months I have lived many new experiences that I will never forget, and that have contributed to making this the best adventure of my life so far. Jutta, my host, has become my second sister, since we have spent some incredible months together and we have gained a lot of confidence.

Now I can say that I will always have another family in Finland.

I've gotten to do things I'd never think of, like stepping into a frozen lake and feeding a moose. In addition, I have tried thousands of different Finnish dishes, made many new friends and enjoyed tens of sunsets in the forest.

All this without taking into account that this experience has helped me learn to take care of myself and to be much more independent. For all these reasons I will never forget these two months in Finland.
