Bats of the Inyo White Mountains

Background information on our local bat species. According to Dr. Michael Morrison, who has researched our local Crater Mountain Colonies, the above paper is oldish but still valid for the region. He has not encountered any other bat species besides Townsend's Big-eared Bats in the lava tubes except for an occasional canyon bat (Parastrellus) and Myotis (of some species; multiple ones here).

In addition, he stated, "the bats will be mostly if not entirely gone come October. They should start moving up to higher elevation hibernacula by November/December, and the Valley is too low for most of them (they need it cold)."
