The coronavirus pandemic has affected many lives including America’s favorite pastime, baseball. Seasons were shortened, important games were canceled, but that didn’t stop the Dodgers and Rays from bashing together in the 2020 Baseball World Series.
After a hard-fought victory, the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Houston Astros during the ALCS in 7 games, while the Los Angeles Dodgers overcame the threat of the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS. In the first game of the World Series, the Dodgers came out strong mashing the ball leading to an 8-3 victory, but the Rays wouldn’t go out as easy winning game two 6-4. Dodgers keep the pressure on the Rays by winning game 3 but the Rays come right back and barely win game four 8-7, evening up the series.
An important game 5 comes along and the Dodgers take a win after home runs from Joc Pederson and Max Muncy, now leading 3-2 in the Series. Rays facing elimination in game 6, have Arozarena batting second. Arozarena does what he’s been doing all postseason long, demolish the baseball with all his might. With a .377 batting average and 10 home runs, Arozarena hit a first-inning home run to give the Rays the lead. Sadly, that was the Ray's only run as Dodgers piled it on scoring 2 in the 6th and 1 in the 8th on a Mookie Betts home run, the Dodgers newest addition to the team.
The former Redsox outfielder who is a two-time Silver Slugger winner and 2018 American League MVP recipient delivered just as the Dodgers had expected when they paid him 365 million dollars. Julio Urías, the Dodgers closer, was set with the task of closing out a 3-1 lead to record possibly the most important save of his life. Three consecutive outs later, the Dodger have won the World Series.
Tears of joy and happiness flowed through the Dodgers players as they rushed the mound to celebrate. Separately, Justin Turner, the Dodgers third baseman tested positive for COVID-19 during the sixth inning, causing him to be taken out of the game. After news reached Turner that they had just won the World Series, he rushed out onto the field ignoring the fact that he had just tested positive. He celebrated with his teammates, knowing he’d have to face the repercussions. Dodgers celebrate their first world series since 1988 with pride.
