The school doors open at 8.50 am and school starts at 8.55am.
Reception children enter the school at the castle end. For security reasons the doors are bolted at 9.00am and after this time entry is only via the main doors. Parents are encouraged to say goodbye to their children at the school gate.
There are three breaks: mid-morning, lunch time and mid-afternoon. If the weather is unsuitable the children will remain inside.
A Snack Bar is held mid-morning and mid-afternoon to help develop the children’s independence. They are provided with free milk and it is hoped that they will bring a small piece of fruit/veg as a snack to encourage healthy eating.
School ends at 3.15pm and the children will be brought to meet you at the gate. Please ensure that your child can see you. We will not allow your child to leave until you, or a named person, is there to collect them.
During the Reception year your child will have a medical examination by the school nurse and you will be invited to attend.
We spend time exploring in our woodland area, whatever the weather, so your child will need a waterproof jacket, trousers and welly boots to be kept in school.
For P.E. lessons (gym, dance and games) your child will need: black pumps, black shorts & white t-shirt
In the Reception Class the children will begin to learn the skills needed to become confident and able readers. Children will be supplied with reading books for you to share and discuss together. Regular reading practice with parents really does aid progress and develop interest. Please ensure that your child’s reading books are in school every day in a named reading folder.
At lunchtime the children have the option of having a school dinner or bringing their own packed lunch. School dinners currently cost £2.25 per day and money should be paid via ParentPay. All lunches are eaten in the school hall and children are supervised by teaching assistants and dinner staff.
We have lots of activities, toys and games in class but we do appreciate that in the first couple of weeks a child may wish to bring in a small toy to help them settle. Although we generally discourage children from bringing in toys, because of possible breakages, losses and distractions, we hope they will bring in interesting books and objects relevant to our topics to support and enhance their learning.
