Torfaen Catering take great pride in their menus, which have been developed by their Catering Managers, cooks and in-house dietitian to ensure meals are attractive, nutritionally balanced and offer great value for money.
Pupils are offered a balanced hot meal-of-the-day with dessert, and fresh water available at all times. Menus have a strong focus on fresh fruit, vegetables and salad, and a full, extensive range of salad bar options are available daily as an alternative to the hot meal of the day which means there is always lots of choice for a meal the children will enjoy.
Their menus are planned to meet Welsh Government Standards for school lunches and contain on average around a third of pupils’ daily nutrient requirements.
Please complete this form if your child requires a medically prescribed diet. Section A needs to be completed by the parent/guardian of the child. Section B needs to be completed by a medical professional. To protect the health of your child please continue to supply a packed lunch until a menu is in place and a start date has been confirmed with the catering team (please allow up to three weeks for the menu to be arranged). More information can be found here: Special Diets - Primary School
All primary school children in Wales will get free school meals by 2024. This commitment is in response to the rising cost-of-living pressures on families and our shared ambitions of tackling child poverty and ensuring no child goes hungry in school. The Welsh Government is committed to implementing the scheme as quickly as possible.
There are also wider benefits of free school meals, including promoting healthy eating across the school, increasing the variety of food learners can eat, improving social skills at mealtimes, as well as improving behaviour and attainment.
Please complete the online form below. The responses will go directly to the catering team. The local authority needs to ensure that eligible families are still claiming their FSM entitlement to safeguard the additional grants that schools receive. The form also acts as the gateway for parents to access additional grants for clothing. Special diet information is also collected on these forms to ensure that we are aware of any dietary requirements pupils have to ensure they are provided with a safe and nutritious meal.
