Humanities

The Humanities Area of Learning and Experience (Area) is home of geography; history; religion, values and ethics; business studies and social studies. This Area encourages learners to engage with the most important issues facing humanity, including sustainability and social change, and help to develop the skills necessary to interpret and articulate the past and the present.

At Rhyl High school, the humanities area of learning explores the world looking at the History, Geography and Religion, Values and Ethics (RVE) of each continent. Some continents are taught through  a combined humanities unit of work, whilst others investigate key questions and are separated into the three main subjects of History, Geography and RVE.

Year 7 - Unit 1  In the beginning ............

What are the origins of our planet,

its people and our beliefs?

This unit will introduce year 7 pupils to the three main Humanities subjects (History, Geography and Religious Education) and how they will explore the world over the next three years. The unit begins with Geography and the formation of the continents, followed by the spread of humans across the globe. The final section looks at different creation stories and how this issue has been  tackled by different groups.
