Attenborough class has had a very busy term and we have been able to cram in a lot of learning covering many different subject areas.
This term's central idea and lines of inquiry have focused on World War 2 and this has really hooked and engaged the children; they have been very inquisitive and wanted to know and find out more. In history lessons, we have explored and interpreted many different sources, both primary and secondary, to provide insight into significant events during WW2 (Dunkirk, The Battle of Britain and The Blitz) and how the war affected people's lives. Our English lessons this term have been related to two brilliant books: a picture book by Christophe Gallaz and Roberto Innocenti called Rose Blanche and a historical fiction novel called Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll. These books have allowed us to develop key comprehension skills including inferring character feelings and what is implied by the author, making informed predictions and exploring unfamiliar vocabulary.
The children have worked hard and developed their design technology skills to design, make and evaluate their own World War 2 shelters. They showed great care, patience and maturity to use a variety of tools to create their shelters using balsa wood.
A big well done to all the children for their continued commitment to their learning.
Mr Bullock, Mrs Bassett, Miss Channon and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year!
