Term 5
Term 5
Message from Mr Etheridge
Module 5 has been an incredibly busy module with children creating some incredible pieces of learning and showing agency over their learning and taking action based on what they believe to be important. There are many examples of this but I will share just a couple!
Year 2 - Dance-a-thon
In our celebration assembly earlier this module, Year 2 children and staff interrupted the normal proceedings by creating a 'flash-mob'. This was to raise awareness of their upcoming sponsored "Dance-a-thon" in support of the Fenn Bell Conservation Project which was linked to their learning on exploring the human impact on animal habitats and how it could be counteracted through animal conservation.
The children raised £120 which we know will be greatly appreciated by the Fenn Bell.
Pupil Employment Scheme
Since the start of module 3, pupils in years 5 and 6 have had the opportunity to be involved in the pupil employment scheme. This is where pupils have applied for advertised jobs, sat interviews and successfully conducted roles such as Lunchtime Helper, Play Leader and Librarian. For each shift that they have completed, the children earn 'Hoo Bucks' which they can save and spend on a number of different rewards.
Over the past few weeks, the Librarians have recognised that not all children have been taking responsibility for this environment so took it upon themselves to plan and deliver a whole-school assembly. This not only included creating and delivering a slide show, but writing and performing a song!
It made us so proud to see these children taking their roles so seriously and to see the incredible confidence that they showed.
Module 6
Whilst we may be tempted to start to turn our thoughts towards next academic year, there are still over seven weeks left of this one! Every day is approximately 0.5% of the year and we are intent on ensuring that each and every one of these counts! Please do continue to support your child at home by reading regularly with them, encouraging them to complete their homework and by talking to them about their learning - not just their (or other children's) behaviour.
Remember, you could ask the types of questions below to help focus on what your child has learnt and to reflect on them as a learner.
"What was the most interesting thing you learned today?"
"Can you tell me about something new you discovered?"
"If you had to teach me one thing you learned today, what would it be?"
We wish you all a very relaxed and peaceful half term break and look forward to your children returning energised and focused ready for a very busy module 6!
