What an amazing first term we have had in Anderson Class. The children in Year 3 have been engaging with all of their learning this term which has been fantastic! They have blown me away with their eagerness and willingness to learn which has made me feel so proud to be their class teacher. I have enjoyed seeing all of their fabulous homework in the books and on our Google Classroom. Keep it up! A gentle reminder, please make sure you are using our Google Classroom to keep up to date with our current learning and any homework that has been set.
Inquiry
During our Inquiry, we have been looking at Who We Are and how humans can be classified according to their similarities and differences. To begin with, we looked at what makes us human and how we are all similar but different to everyone around us. This enabled us to create some great pop art style artwork, focusing on self-portraits and we were able to define what unique means and then discuss differences and how we are unique to everyone else within the school. Following this, we looked at what we need to survive and why they are each important to us. We then moved onto more specifically looking at the Eatwell plate and the different food groups and why being healthy is important and what food gives us the right nutrients for our body. After that, we look at different animals, including us, and discovered that we have different skeletons.
Throughout the term we have been making connections to our human settlements and others around the world. This led us nicely onto our third line of inquiry where we were looking at the United Kingdom and its features alongside Mexico, which was the country we chose to research as a class, linking it to a partnered school we have over there. All of the children in the class have been able to make lots of connections this term which has been amazing to see and I know they will continue to amaze me and Mr Douglas next term.
Maths
In Maths this term we have been focusing on number, place value, addition and subtraction. We have been able to understand why digits have different values and how we can show and represent these numbers in a range of different ways using different models, Part-Whole model, Tens and ones and bar model. We can then use this knowledge to help complete addition and subtraction questions correctly. We have been using a range of resources such as base ten, number lines and place value counters to make sure we are fully understanding the questions. Well done to everyone who has been using TTRS this term. It has been great to see you playing against your friends and joining in with the competitions.
