Da Vinci class had a fantastic first term at school. They have made new friendships and relationships with the children in their class, other classes and adults in the school. They have learnt the routines of the day, where resources are and how to access them with independence, as well put them back where they live when they have finished with them. They are beginning to use the language of the PYP, such as knowing when they are being risk-takers, caring, and principled.
We have been learning all about who we are, and our similarities and differences and what makes us a good friend. In maths we have explored the numbers 1,2,3 including different ways we can make the number through practical activities, comparing amounts and the different representations of the numbers. We have also explored pattern making through natural resources and printing. We have made a fantastic start to phonics, learning the sounds and using them to read words by segmenting and blending. The children have begun to use their phonic knowledge to record their ideas by writing initial sounds and other sounds heard. In the last few weeks Da Vinci class has been exploring Autumn. We went on a walk in the school grounds to find some Autumn treasures and use the iPads to take photos. We returned with lots of leaves, acorns and pinecones. Children have explored the Autumn resources and used them in lots of areas of our learning from art, writing and maths. They had great fun using the tweezers to extract the seeds from the pumpkins and using them in the mud kitchen.
