Wow, what a busy but exciting term it has been for Cousteau Class! The children came into Year 2 ready to learn and have been engaged all term, which has been amazing to see.
In our Inquiry learning we have been looking at communities and how people can support each other in them. The children have looked at what is in their local area, as well as in surrounding areas such as Allhallows and made comparisons. As well as this, the children have been able to design something that they feel would be needed in Hoo. Their designs were great!
During our second line of inquiry, we have looked at rules and responsibilities and how certain people are here to keep us safe. The children discussed the rules we have in our school and the difference between right and wrong behaviour. Also, we read lots of exciting texts such as Burglar Bill and Cops and Robbers, which the children enjoyed reading. We also had a very special visit from a lady called Sharon who is a First Community Responder for Stoke, Medway. We listened to how she keeps people safe and also got to perform CPR on a dummy!
For our third line of inquiry, we have been looking at different communities such as living things and how we can support them in our local area. We have created posters to share with people how we can keep our environment clean and safe for animals in our local area and also created some life cycles of animals such as humans, ducks and butterflies.
In maths we have looked at number and place value and have started to look at addition and subtraction within 100. The children have been trying really hard to use manipulatives to help them complete their learning as sometimes they do find it tricky.
It has been a great first term in Year 2 and I cannot wait to see the children after the October half term.
