Abstract:
Review of a body of literature finds that space science is a growing field in the modern world of technological development, students have high interest in space science, and that the education of this topic in schools is highly limited. Within this body of literature, a gap exists regarding the combination of both teacher and student opinion on the implementation of space science curriculum into education. This study analyzes two main concepts: A) the presence of space science within high schools in X County and B) teacher and student opinion on implementing this curriculum into their schools. Both quantitative and qualitative data was collected through both student and teacher surveys. Main findings include: A) students indicate a high interest in space science, B) space science is not widely taught in high schools in the county, and C) teachers widely believe that these courses would be beneficial to the learning of students. These findings provide implications towards improving the future of education in response to the changing nature of the modern world. With additional research, ways to include these new forms of curriculum can be determined and possibly implemented as well.
