Secondary School: refers to high school education (students must attend until the age of 18 in Manitoba)
Post-Secondary Education: follows the completion of high school (or secondary education); includes universities, colleges, trade schools and vocational schools
College: focus on programs of study that can be applied towards a careers and can offer certification in specific fields; usually technical and trade specific training
Diploma or Certificates in business, computer and mechanical technologies, health, social services, agriculture, and trades
University: focuses on academic and professional programs and lead to degrees in disciplines and subjects
Bachelor's Degree: a basic degree given by Canadian universities that take 3-4 years to complete
Master's Degree: a more advanced degree that usually requires a bachelor's degree and takes 3+ years of study
Doctoral Degree: the most advanced degree that requires a masters; usually requires 3+ years of study and research
