KKK's Reemergence

After successfully ending Reconstruction in 1877 and establishing white supremacy using Jim Crow laws and lynchings to create a second class citizenship among the Freedman the KKK largely disappeared. It reemerged in the 1920s but in a new variation. The question you will attempt to answer is: "How was the 1920s version different from the Reconstruction version?"

Your Task:

a. Place the number of each source document in the correct geographic location

b. Create a key for each source's number that includes:

1) A.C.A.P. document info

2) summary of the source information (2-3 sentences each)

2) Based on these documents and the recorded lectures, write a hypothesis of the changes causing the fears and anxieties of the dominant (white) society during the 1920s that led to the rebirth and massive growth of this organization of white supremacy.

3) Read "The Enduring Vision" Section titled Counterattacks on pgs 479 - 481 to refresh your memory about the Reconstruction era Ku Klux Klan. Write a paragraph answering the following question:

How was the 1920s version KKK similar to and different from the Reconstruction era KKK?
