The Great Migration

During the World War I and Continuing into the 1920s African Americans from the South began moving in large numbers to northern urban areas. This is often called "The Great Migration".

  1. Examine the Three Illustration sheets in the "Lesson1 -Moving North" Documents.
    1. Answer the Circled Questions on a reflection page for the Standard 6 notes in your notebooks.
  2. Also on that page (add paper if necessary), create a T-Chart. The left hand column will be labeled "Long Term Causes" and the right side will be labeled "Immediate Causes"
    1. Fill in the T-Chart using the lecture notes and the information from these illustrations.
    2. Include a description of the cause as well as an explanation why you placed it in the column you chose.
