- I manage my reading by checking that I understand what I read.
- I back up and re-read for understanding.
- I make connections with the text by relating the ideas and emotions to things I have thought or felt.
- I make a picture or mental image in my mind of what I am reading.
- I ask questions before, during and after reading of myself and others.
- I predict what will happen next by using information I have learnt or know from before.
- I summarise the text making sure that my information is sequenced and in order.
- I use the main idea and details to determine the importance of information that I read.
- Throughout the text I look for the author's purpose.
- I look for 'cause and effect' relationships.
- I compare and contrast information I read in a text and with other texts.
- I synthesise new information from the text. This means matching information in the text to my own ideas to make my ideas stronger and more solid.
