Mechanics Resources

Hello 13 Phys. This spot will be where you can find important resources as we move through mechanics.

MECHANICS - Vectors / Impulse / Momentum

Learn: Pages 83 - 99. This is too much work to do in one lesson which means: You are expected to do a little study or catch up outside of class but DO NOT do every single question.

The good thing about physics is you often do not have to every single question to be confident in the new skills you have learnt, they are there for extra practice. It is up to you to be an independent learner and take responsibility, which means you must work at your own pace and move on when you are confident.

Momentum and COM combined

Have a go at the explosions question on page 97. Remember that Total Initial Momentum is going to be zero in an explosion, so the sum of all the parts after the explosion must add up to zero horizontally and vertically.

This week we are combining the concepts of Momentum and Centre of Mass. Make sure you have had a go at SciPAD pages 98 - 104.

Here is a resource on No Brain Too Small that might help you with a concept if the SciPAD doesn't make sense to you: Link

At the start of the week I am going to share an NCEA problem that everyone needs to have a go at. This will be done using google forms. This way I can track who is doing what. I have sent this to you via email. I will post a video going over the answer later in the week.

Circular Motion and Tension

SciPAD pages 118 to 125 is the goal for week 2. This is 2 pages a day.

This starts with level 2 recap which is a nice way to start the week!

I will also send out another Google Form with a past NCEA question so watch your emails.

Banked Corners and Gravity

SciPAD pages 127 - 136 is the goal for week 3. (Page 129 and 132 are optional extra practice)

Banked corners involves drawing free body force diagrams similar to conical pendulums so make sure you've checked these out first! The Video below is a nice tutorial to start on.

I will also send out another Google Form with a past NCEA question so watch your emails.

Satellites and Vertical Circular Motion

SciPAD pages 134 - 143 is the goal for week 4. This will be focusing on the Circular Motion of orbiting objects due to gravity, as well as the motion of objects moving in Vertical Circles, for example swinging a bucket overhead or a car doing a loop the loop.

Vertical Circular Motion

This week we are finishing off the SciPAD pages 141 to 143. This doesn't seem like many pages and here's why:

These are fairly large pages and if you do every question that's still quite a bit of work.

There are End of Chapter Review questions just over the page so if you get through these pages please have a look at these.

Some of you will be behind and this gives you a chance to catch up. Remember please look at the videos and diagrams I have uploaded on my site and join the tutorials during the week. Look below:
