Waihanga-Create-Act Draw a portion of a Van Gogh painting onto wet cartridge paper. Estimate the position, direction and shape of the the subject matter. (vase of sunflowers). Take note of the changes of colour and the value (light or dark) quality of the colour. Notice the direction and size of the brushstrokes.
Paint the section of the painting you have given using thick brushstrokes.
Additional Information on Mixing colours from primary colours: yellow, red, blue
Ako-Learn-Know Review the section of Van Gogh's Sunflowers that you are working on. Notice the following:
Colour of green background and and browns on table and on the centre of the sunflower. Us a cool yellow and the lighter blue to mix the green.
Direction and texture of the brushstrokes. Try to imitate these, please.
Width of brushstrokes: some are made with a flat brush and others are made with smaller rounds.

Mix several of the colours you see in the section of your painting. Green = Mix Yellow + Blue. Brown= Mix Orange (yellow + red) + Blue
Take note of the changes of colour and the value (light or dark) quality of the colour. Notice the direction and size of the brushstrokes.
Paint the background first to help define the shapes of the positive forms.
You can paint over what you need to adjust later.

Identify the parts of the painting your are working on: are there sunflowers, green leaves, the green background, the vase, or table top visible in your fragment?
