I am so excited to be one of your first partners in your child's formal education! The most important thing you should know about me is I LOVE TEACHING YOUNG CHILDREN and working with families - it is my passion! I believe school can be cold and scary or warm and inviting - I choose warm and inviting! You will be involved in this adventure for the next 12 years and I am here to help you along your journey!
A little bit about me and MY journey......
I worked in business as a sales and marketing manager for small, family owned businesses until I was 36 years old. My 'teaching' journey started when my son was born. When my son turned 2.5 years I was already fascinated with his development and enjoyed observing the teacher at the part-time toddler time program he attended. When he turned 3 he was old enough to join the San Lorenzo Parent Cooperation Preschool. Parents were required to participate a few days a week in the classroom. After the second year, the teachers approached me and asked if I wanted be a teacher at the site.
This is where MY TEACHING journey begins.
I attended many Early Childhood Classes at Chabot Junior College, worked in classrooms under the best instructors, and slowly received my Preschool Teacher Certificates through the state of California. I also was working toward my Adult Teaching Credential. I became the teacher at the Cooperative Preschool and worked with parents and caregivers, modeling positive, developmentally appropriate teaching and also taught parent education. I had my dream job! I taught young children for over 10 years.
Sadly, the school closed; but with every disappointment comes an opportunity. I went back to California State University East Bay (CSUEB) and earned my bachelor's degree with a minor in early childhood education (2015), continuing on to graduate the teacher credential program at CSUEB, earning my California Teaching Credential (2016). I earned a Masters of Educational Technology in 2022.
Since 2016 I have taught 5th grade for 3 years, Kindergarten for 2 years, and 2nd grade for 1 year, finally back HOME in Transitional Kindergarten. Teaching the other grades has given me great insight on how children develop over time.
Words cannot express how excited I am to meet you and your child, and create a caring environment for your family, helping to navigate public education. With a strong start and support, parents will have a positive outcome supporting their 'student' in their educational journey!
